| These maps cover an area of about 4 times that of the 7.5-minute series maps, and are scaled to about 1 inch on the map equals about 1 mile on the ground. These are also referred to as the 15-minute map series, owing their name to the U.S. Geological Survey 15-minute topographic base map. What you gain in area, you lose in detail. These maps are also excellent for determining geologic trends and relationships over a broader area than the traditional 7.5-minute series maps. |
