Buncombe County is the third North Carolina County to be studied for potential and known landslide hazards. North Carolina Geological Survey staff in Swannanoa (Asheville Regional Office) are heading up this multi-year effort to map known and potential landslide locations in western North Carolina.
Buncombe County landslide hazard maps are available from this web page as free downloadable Adobe PDF documents, or purchased as
hard-copy maps through our Geological Survey Shop.
Buncombe County Landslide Hazard Data can now be viewed interactively online using our Buncombe County Landslide Map Viewer (loads in a new browser window). Users can also view additional Buncombe County spatial data layers, such as county tax parcels, roads, hydrography, and critical facilities. Several vintages of aerial photography are also available through this viewer.
Also available are the spatial data files (GIS) used to create these maps.
